Fostering Hope was established in 2006 after four years of research into the foster care system. Their goal was to better understand the plight of children in foster care and the challenges of foster parents who step up to provide them with a home. What began as a little more than a hunch and a heart for helping these families is today an organization impacting hundreds of lives. In partnership with faith communities, businesses and other nonprofits, they support some 40 foster families in the Pikes Peak region, as well as dozens of teens and young adults who are emancipating, or aging out, of the child welfare system. Their network of volunteers act as the extended family these kids missed out on, and that the foster parents need to keep going.
What to expect: Volunteers will be supporting a single foster mother who is an elderly parent with 1 foster teen and 2 twins in adult care. She cares for medically fragile children and has been fostering for more than a decade. She specifically needs support through some specific yard work, cutting down damaged trees and do trimming in the yards. We are looking for specific volunteers that feels comfortable operating a chainsaw.
Age Requirement: Volunteers must be 14+
What to wear: Volunteers should wear comfortable work clothes, closed-toed shoes and long pants
What to bring: Please bring a water bottle, work gloves, sunscreen, hedge clippers and a rake. Any supplies that would lend to outside work, specifically tree trimming, eye protection if you have it.
Rally Details: Because you are serving in the East area on CityServe Day, you will be rallying at Woodmen Valley Chapel - Woodmen Heights (see map for details) at 8am. Join us at the East Rally to pray and grab some coffee before you head to serve a Fostering Hope family. One of our local Pastors will pray over you before you go out to serve the East side of Colorado Springs.
